What does it mean to be a good person?
In a grain of wheat,
is the seed to fill the earth;
but it must first die.
Jesus says, when told, “Good master,” in reply, “Why do you call me good, only One is good, God.” This is the wisdom of Michael the Archangel, who responded to Lucifer at The First Fall, and said, “Who can be like God?” But, if you read further in The Holy Gospel, Jesus also says, “Be perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect.” If you come to understand the meaning of God when He says of Adam and of Eve that they were created in the image and likeness of God; we are called also to be good.
Perfection, then, is an everlasting struggle, for those who take this lot upon themselves. And one who understands God closely, understands that The Father can be seen echoed in The Son; and that His pain, if The Father is to be greater than The Son, His pain, and His suffering, these must far surpass being crucified on a cross.
To be a good person, is to be like unto God; and to be as God means to have mercy in your every thought, word, and deed; much more than to deliver out justice. And to be merciful is to love through action; and to love, we know through Jesus, is to lay down one’s own life for one’s friends. To be good is to become crucified; but to be crucified only, it is not enough; for there were two thieves with Christ, both crucified.
Then to be good is to be crucified with a heart of love and mercy.
